December the Second - O Little Town of Bethlehem
I love Christmas carols very much and have always been a big fan of them. It never seems like we sing them for long enough but perhaps I would get tired of them if we did. The carol I've chosen is Oh little town of Bethlehem. The reason for my choosing it is partly because I like all three tunes I know as well as the one that Cliff Richard had a hit with several years ago. I also really like the words, in particular the last verse which says:
Oh holy child of Bethlehem descend to us we pray,
cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels, the great glad tidings tell,
oh come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emanuel.
Thank you to Carrie who sent this in. Below are three versions, one we know, one less well known and finally, it's Cliff!
Firstly, the version we know well from Songs of Praise:
This version is to the less well known St Louis tune:
Then finally, a different tune from the fabulous Cliff Richard:
