I love this hymn because it goes to the heart of the awe I feel that God continues to love me no matter what.
How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That he should give his only Son
To make a wretch his treasure
Surely this is the ultimate declaration of love; God sacrifices his son in order to make me his treasure. That sacrifice makes me breathless, not just with gratitude but with wonder that a ‘wretch’ such as I could be loved so much. This declaration and demonstration of eternal love carries me, shields me and inspires me every day of my life.
