Day 23 - There is a Higher Throne

'There is a Higher Throne' was written by Keith and Kirstyn Getty, and is the first song that they wrote together. The world is not as it should be, but this song recognises that there is a God who sits in authority over the earth, a God who loves us and who sent his son Jesus Christ to die for us. It looks forward to the day when Christians from every corner of the earth will gather before Christ Jesus in Heaven. Drawing inspiration from the book of Revelation chapter 21, it tells how, on that day, God will wipe every tear from our eyes, for there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. This is a wonderful, totally amazing promise to hold on to, and I find that this song helps me to remember it when times are hard and when I'm inclined to forget.

‘There is a Higher Throne’ is one of my favourite hymns  .
It was written by Keith & Kristyn Getty, a duo from Northern Ireland. They have been called the “pre-eminent” hymn writers of this generation and have been  credited with “changing the way evangelicals worship”.
The hymn, based on The Book of Revelation , is a celebration of the promise to believers that they will someday gather around the throne of God, lifting voices in united songs of praise.
 "There is a higher throne than all this world has known, where faithful ones from every tongue will one day come."
The book of Revelation is not a book of the Bible I would usually turn to or understand, but these words and the amazing uplifting tune are full of promise and hope.
Through emerald court and sapphire skies’ is my favourite line. I just  love singing this hymn.

Mary Elliott

Than all this world has known,
Where faithful ones from ev'ry tongue
Will one day come.

Before the Son we stand,
Made faultless through the Lamb;
Believing hearts find promised grace—
Salvation comes.

Hear heaven's voices sing;
Their thund'rous anthem rings
Through em'rald courts and sapphire skies.
Their praises rise.

All glory, wisdom, pow'r,
Strength, thanks, and honor are
To God our King, who reigns on high
Forevermore.

And there we'll find our home,
Our life before the throne;
We'll honor Him in perfect song
Where we belong.

He'll wipe each tear-stained eye
As thirst and hunger die.
The Lamb becomes our Shepherd King;
We'll reign with Him

Hear heaven's voices sing;
Their thund'rous anthem rings
Through em'rald courts and sapphire skies.
Their praises rise.

All glory, wisdom, pow'r,
Strength, thanks, and honor are
To God our King, who reigns on high, forevermore.
