Local Ministry Team

Our parish Local Ministry Team was mandated by the bishop in 2004, and currently has eight lay and ordained members. Its declared purpose is: ‘To encourage and equip every member of the parish to take their part in God’s mission to the world’. The LMT tries, alongside the whole congregation, to discern the direction in which God is particularly calling our church, and then to release the gifts of all to help implement the plans the church has made.

In recent years this has included ensuring that the responses which the congregation originally gave to the ‘Catching God’s Vision’ questionnaire about the mission and ministry of St George’s evolved into the action plan known as ‘Growing God’s Vision’. Particular concerns for example were about how we share our faith with others, how we look outwards in service, how we offer hospitality and welcome, and how we work with children and young people.

We work both together as a team and independently, so that LMT members are involved in many church groups and projects. Among these, and together with other members of the congregation, LMT members help by:

• Leading Morning Prayer (Morning Prayer is held every day Mon – Sat in the church)

• Leading House Groups and encouraging others to lead them.

• Joining with Junior Church leaders to run Kidz children’s workshops regularly throughout the year to tie in with the worship of the church.

• Encouraging the congregation to get involved in service to others and in working for justice for the poor and marginalised.

• Organising outreach and social events and talks

• Providing prayer ministry following Sunday services and for special occasions and needs.

• Leading ‘Sacred Space’ contemplative services and sharing in Sunday worship in a number of roles.
